Shoes-day Tuesday! Blame the bestie

Alright, I’ve got some beef with mother nature.  It’s October and in the 80′s, which just isn’t right.  It’s not atypical of NorCal to get some hot days in September, but usually that is behind us by now.  The freakishly warm weather is really cramping my Fall fashion…ha!  Speaking of which, I’m seriously sick of all my clothes.  Any one want to do a full on clothes swap with me?

Despite the heat, I still broke out my new burnt orange skinny jeans (Marshalls purchase) on Friday and paired it with a tee.  They are so soft and will hopefully look good with boots in a few weeks:

But for Shoes-Day, I’m showing a summer-to-fall transition outfit (mostly because of the heat).  I wore this to work last Tuesday:

White Gap trousers, orange Dolman top (over a tan cami), and orange sandals:

See, white for Summer (even past Labor Day which is silly rule IMO) and orange for Fall.  Maybe it’s a stretch, but it works I think.

So why blame the bestie?  Well every now and then, she’ll tell me she’s buying shoes.  Then she sends me the links.  Then I inevitably buy the exact same pair in the exact same size.  And yes we even did this when she was living just a few miles (vs on the East Coast).  So I blame the bestie for making me get these Mix 6 wedges (purchased from DSW.com) in a size 7.5.  The wedge is extremely tall, but oddly comfortable as are the straps.  They were a great surprise shoe and I’m pretty sure, on sale, they were in the $35-range.

Do you follow any of the fashion-season rules?

Shoes-day Tuesday! And other odds and ends

Hey there,

What a weekend!  Fall was in the air, I met up with multiple friends, tackled to-do lists, and ate and drank to my heart’s content.

Our friends (expecting a baby in Jan!) offered to make us dinner on Friday night at our place — who are we to say no?  It was one of those last minute things that worked out really nicely.

Saturday was spent prepping for our friends (and baby) to come over for “linner” (since the babies go to sleep between 7 and 8).  The Fall-inspired menu included:

  • Roasted beets on top of a honey-chevre covered crostini
  • Add’l cheese: jarlsberg and wasabi gouda (not as spicy as I would have liked)
  • Pumpkin salsa soup (turned out super spicy)
  • Pear arugula salad with red onions, toasted slivered almonds, and more chevre
  • Homemade applecrisp and vanilla bean ice cream

Err, and a few bottles of wine.

And moving on to the main point of this post: shoes.  Well boots, anyway.

A few weeks ago, my bestie let me know that Endless.com was having a 20% (add’l) off all boots sale.  So I had to look.  Just to see what was out there.   Well, I found these Frye boots.  I loved the gathered sleeve-like leather at the top.

And paired with a cute dog and a great Fall purse:

I wouldn’t want to pay full price for these, but luckily at the time, they were on sale for $275ish  and then with the additional 20% off, they came to only $222.  Not bad, not bad.  I went with the Dark Brown because that is the one color seriously lacking in my boot collection.  And come to find out, my BIL’s fiancee bought the same pair, only in Cognac.

Note, these are my normal size 7.5 and I have plenty of room for some thick socks.  I might have been able to go with a size 7, but figured it was better to have some room than be too tight given the pitch of the heel.

Since it was about 75 deg out, I didn’t end up wearing the boots with the outfit, but now I’m really itching to wear them.  Perhaps I should just turn on the air conditioning and wear them around the house? ;)

Shoes-day Tuesday! Two tone repeat

It’s been awhile since I’ve done Shoes-day Tuesday hasn’t it?  (Well technically it’s Monday night, but let’s not split hairs)  I have some new shoes to showcase, but I don’t like the outfit I paired them with so you’ll have to wait until next time I drag them out of my closet Smile

Speaking of my closet, when I did my shoe purge about a month ago, I rediscovered some Ann Marino strappy two-tone sandals.  I was on the fence if I should keep them or toss them and figured, they were a good heel height for work.

And wouldn’t you know, the last time I showed them here on the blog, I also mentioned how well suited they were for work.  I guess they just “speak” conservative-work-shoe to me, though in reality they aren’t all that uber plain and boring.

So without further ado, here’s me and the shoes:

This is what I’d call comfy-casual work wear, not something I’d wear on a meeting day.  The skirt is Max Studio and I have no idea what the sweater is – it’s just old!

Close up of the shoes:

See, business-y, no?

Speaking of shoes and work, last Thursday I decided last minute to swap the shoes I was going to wear with some nude strappy sandals with a narrow heel.  Big mistake.  Huge.  While I was walking down the hallway, I totally bit it.  First time I’ve ever fallen at work, which is a wonder with how slippery the floors are.  Luckily no one really saw, but I have two giant bruises on my knees.  It should be noted that during my not-so-graceful fall, I managed to hold my coffee upright and not spill a drop.  Silver lining, people Winking smile

Come on, when’s the last time you bit it?

What makes a shoe conservative to you?  Do these fit the conservative work shoe category?
