Real Housewives of Menlo Park?

Hi friends

Do Sundays make anyone else feel extremely anxious?  Despite getting my nails done today and going for a 1hr and 45 min hike, I feel frazzled.  I think it’s because I didn’t get done what I wanted today.  Argh.

You’re probably wondering what my title is about huh?  No I’m  not a RH of the Silicon Valley, though that would be highly amusing.  I went to my first Dailey Method class on Friday, which took place in Menlo Park.  My immediate thought was holy crap, I’m in a room full of women whom all could be on Real Housewives of Menlo Park.  They were all somewhere between 30-55ish, quite beautiful, had some works done (well done, I must say), were fit beyond belief and sporting Lululemon like it was the uniform.  Oh and they obviously didn’t work or happened to have the day off.

But perhaps you want to know about the class huh?  It was great!  I definitely worked all my muscle groups to the point of fatigue and even some cramping on the pulse movements.  It was pretty intense, though it didn’t feel too hard at the time.  My triceps have been burning all weekend.

I’d love to go more often, but at $20 a pop, I can’t say it’s quite worth that much.  I’d probably go a handful of times per year though.  I’ll stick to Spin as my main class-style exercise for now (which I did Saturday) ;)

After running baby-related errands on Saturday, Zach and I went to a new(er) restaurant in Mountain View for dinner: Barracuda.  We started with some beverages:

One of those isn’t mine :P

And ordered some apps of spicy edamame and crunchy sweet peas (not pictured):

Zach ordered a trio of items that also came with a salad and miso soup.  I think there was some pork dish, chicken teriyaki and of course sashimi.

I went with a vegetable fantasy roll with mango salsa and unari (rice filled tofu skin).

Everything was so so good!  I will definitely be returning here — in fact when my Mom is out in a few weeks, I may just have to take her with me!

As long as we’re talking about food, might as well share what I baked per Facebook request:

Um yeah, those would be peanut butter chocolate bars with mini Reeses PB cups on top, based off this recipe.  Since I’m still keeping my sugar in check, I had a small square to make sure they were share-worthy and immediately packed them all up for my and Zach’s coworkers.  Out of sight out of mind…I hope!

Alright, time to unwind with some vino and Olympics!

Ever felt like you were in the Real Housewives of…?

Does a blog hold you accountable?

Two weekend posts?  Who am I? :P

I hope that everyone has indulged in fabulous activities.  I know I have (and no, work, is not part of that).

Your responses to the “get to know me” posts have been great.  There are so many Real Housewives (and Camille haters) out there.  Sweet, I’m in good company.

So as I mentioned in my Year long to-do list post, I am trying to reign in my weekend eating.  During the week, I keep track of my calories and am highly conscious of what I put in my body.

The weekend, I go nuts.  My breakfasts are bigger (and more caloric).  I get a couple venti Starbucks.  I drink more than my fair share of vino.  I eat out.  It’s a little nuts.  I’m pretty sure I eat well over 2500 calories each weekend day.  Nearly double what I eat during the week.

As a result, I gain about 2lbs from Friday to Monday AM.  I know some of you are vehemently opposed to calorie-counting and weighing, but for me, it works.  And it does keep me in check.

I lose those silly 2lbs every single week by Wednesday or Thursday, but the yo-yo-ing is not good for my body — physically or emotionally.

Sooo….I’m hoping to be held more accountable for my reckless weekend eating by posting all my eats (and drinks!), especially weekends, on my blog for 2 weeks.  It may be a little boring and monotonous for some of the readers (for which I apologize), but this blog is supposed to be about Healthy Living for me, and I think by posting everything I eat may result in s some epiphanies.

I decided I like a challenge and decided to execute on a night when my friend Josh was hosting another spectacular SOMA SF dinner.  You can see his blog here and recall the Halloween craziness here.

The Christmasy buffet

Okay so here we go — feel free to just look at pretty pictures if you’d like:

Eats:

  • 9a – 2 (large) cups of coffee.  Each with 1 tbsp vanilla creamer
  • 10a–1 packet TJ’s apple-cinn oatmeal, with 1 45cal box of raisins, and some extra old-fashioned oats
  • 130p–Roasted tempeh, bell pepper and red onion with soy sauce and Siracha

Lunch with flava

  • 330p–1 chocolate truffle (from a Madison, WI chocolatier)
  • 430p–Sbux venti non-fat 4 pump vanilla latte
  • 730p-1130p–2 large glasses of red wine, 1 large glass of champagne
  • 9p–1 cup pumpkin salsa soup, 2 helpings spinach salad with fennel, 1 piece of ricotta bruschetta, 1 small taquito

My plate (salad x2)

  • 1030p–Approx 4 bites of Tartine chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and a cherry reduction (way to go Josh and Carlos on this one!!!)
  • 1130p–Graham cracker toffee that was a parting present from our hosts (freakin’ delicious)

Fantastic hosts give you presents to open in the car on the way home

Toffee layered graham crackers? YUMNote: I did not pre-snack at Josh and Carlos’s party, nor did I hover by the food and this was a huge success.  Believe me, I normally eat a LOT more at parties.  Also note, I drink water all day long so that’s just a given ;)

Exercise:

  • 30 min on recumbent bike (so I could read my book) on Alpine Hill track
  • 30 min on treadmill at 4mph pace and average of 3 deg incline
  • 3 minutes of planks (side and dolphin)

All in all, I’m pretty proud of myself for yesterday.

What “tricks” do you employ to keep your weekend eating in check?
