WIAW: Meal time

Okay this week is dragging.  Maybe it’s because one week from today will mark the last day before maternity leave.  Wheeeeeee Smile with tongue out

And if you haven’t already, I highly encourage you to check out the giveaway for the glass pendant necklace.  If not for you, then as a gift for your fave fab friend for Christmas Smile

Oh and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your sweet comments on yesterday’s maternity shoot post.  If you’re interested I’m happy to post more, just let me know.

Today, is of course, What I Ate Wednesday (see here to join the party) and my focus is on meals – sounds obvious huh, but I’m much more a snacker than a meal person so here are a few ‘meals’ I’ve been snarfin’ down.

Tis the season of the spaghetti squash – one of my favorite gourds to eat.  I tend to go with a marinara sauce or even a Mexi salsa mixture, but this time around, I went with pesto, and baked tofu (smothered in garlic powder and ground black peppa)

Seeing how I’m still trying to eat as much protein as possible, I do make an effort to actually eat some meat now and then.  We made this dish up on Sunday night: hickory smoked pork tenderloin, purple & green asparagus, and sweet potato.  Not too shabby eh?

Okay okay this may not constitute a meal per se, but while the hubby is away, I go for convenience: blueberry chobani, 1 scoop protein powder, spash of skim milk, and 1/3 cup Raisin Bran Crunch.  Oh and you see that popcorn on the side..yeah that came later Smile with tongue out

And not to be left  out: PIZZA!  I’m obsessed with pizza lately.   We’ve ordered from Pizza Hut twice in two weeks and are in love with the pan crust and extra sauce.  So freakin’ good.  I think Zach is loving my pregnant food habits.

Are you more of a snacker or a meal person?

What’s your favorite pizza delivery place?

WIAW: everything I ate

Good morning to you all!  How are we on this 2nd day of November (ßMEEP!)?  Can I tell you how very happy I am that we are supposed to drop below 60 during the day tomorrow?  Yes I’m the weirdo that wants cold weather in Cali Smile with tongue out  I’m just over all my summer clothes and need a change.

Today it’s all about What I ate Wednesday (WIAW)!

This time around, I’m posting every single thing I ate. Tuesday  Oh yes, you read that right.  I’m telling you down to the cream in my coffee and any stolen treats.

photo(40)

720: PB coffee with regular decaf and 1+ tbsp FF vanilla creamer – 40 cals, 0g protein

845: 1 packet Quaker oats raisin and spice flavor + ¼ cup TJ’s plain oats – 220 cals, 6g protein

004 (17)

1140: Leftover BBQ rice mix, with roasted peppers / onions and 2 cut up smart dogs – 350 cals, 16g protein.  I don’t usually buy these rice mixes because they are so high in sodium, but I love me some BBQ and couldn’t resist.  Verdict? Meh.

145: Stawberry Chobani –  140 cals, 14g protein

005 (17)

320: 1 medium Ambrosia apple – 95 cals

400: ~10 TJ’s cinn-almonds and ~10 candy corns – 220 cals, 3g protein

001 (14)

640: 1 bowl turkey burger chili and 1 bag of plain Popchips for dipping – 450 cals, 10g protein

8p: hot cocoa with mini marshmallows – 200 cals, 1g protein

Total Cals = 1715
Total Protein =   50 g
Yikes!  Still way below what I need as a preggers girl, but I honestly don’t know how to squish anymore in my daily ‘diet’.  Help!

Fitness: 30 minute walk with the beast (Naava) and 30 minutes light weights

It’s always interesting to me when I really examine everything I’ve eaten.  It’s obvious that I eat majority of my calories after noon.  I’ve tried to front load more, but then I still end up eating just as much in the evening.  Pregnancy seems to make it worse too – especially with the sweets.  I now need a dessert every single night.  And then sometimes the floodgates open, the fat kid takes over, and nothing in the pantry is safe.  Last night I did good Winking smile

Also of note, I’m doing pretty good with the higher cal intake.  Pre-pregnancy, I’d eat about 1300-1400 calories a day max.  If I had a particularly strenuous workout, I may up that to 1500-1600.  Yesterday I ate about 1700 cal, I’m right on target for my +1 in my belly ;)

How often, if ever, do your record everything you eat?

How else can I get more protein without packing in a ton more calories?

Pantry Panic

It looks like there are some Manna Bread lovers out there based on my previous posts.  If you can’t find it in your local grocery stores, check your Whole Foods frozen section ;)

Okay..the Pantry:

I don’t really have a pantry per se, but I do have a very large food cupboard.  Aren’t pantries something you can technically walk in?  Well I suppose I could ball myself up and sit on the bottom shelf, but I digress.

Remember my blog on protein bars (see here) where Anna from the Abbott Store offered 25% off on Zone Perfect bars until the end of August (get yours soon!).  Welllll, I took her up on it and ordered these:

Zone Perfect for life

I heard through the blogvine that the Fudge Graham were great and then I perused the site until I came upon Coconut and knew I’d be in love.  Was I wrong?  Nope, no sirree.  What a coconut flavor!  Very impressed.  This truly felt like a decadent candy bar, but with more emphasis on health than on candy ;)   And the calorie-count wasn’t too bad at 210 cals.

Why am I in a panic then?

Because for some reason when I buy too much food, I have this nagging feeling, I’ll never have enough time to eat it.  This is when potential fat-kid moments can occur.  I’m probably not making much sense.  But when presented with too many choices, I get a wee bit overwhelmed (at least when it comes to food).

I grew up where one snack was available and that across the board.  I’m not saying we had one ice cream, one bag of chips, one special cereal, one Little Debbie variety.  Nope, it was ONE of all of the above.

So now that I live on my own and with a hubby who had a different upbringing, we often have tons of snacks in our cupboard.  Most are his and I can pretty much keep myself away, but for some odd reason I find when it comes to protein and granola bars, I feel an odd sense of urgency to eat them.

Right now in my pantry I have,

  • Boxes of Nugo Darks
  • Boxes of Zone Perfect (Fudge and Coconut)
  • Several Balance Protein Bars
  • Some Promax Protein Bars
  • Nature’s Valley Dark Choclate Granola Bars (if you haven’t tried these, you should!)
  • Kashi Pumpkin Spice Flax Granola Bars (another MUST try)

GAH!  To me, these are mostly ‘snacks’ though I will have a protein bar for lunch every now and then.  But given the choice between something fresh over the above, I will pick the former.  Especially since I hate seen good produce going to waste.

Am I neurotic?  (Don’t answer that).  But really, am I alone here?  Am I the only one that gets overwhelmed with too many similar foods?  I feel like I have to schedule when I will eat them all and most definitely stop buying more of the same!  Eeeek!
