Winner and getting “sweet” with Courtney

Happy Friday!

The winner of my closet giveaway for the Chinese Laundry Cross-body purse is Lea from Healthy Coconut!  Congrats to my fellow Cali girl :)   Shoot me an email Lea with your address and I’ll get the goods in the mail!

Check out my guest post on dress shopping over at Courtney’s blog at Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life.

Question of the day:

What’s something you’re looking forward to this weekend?

Can anyone recommend a good movie that’s in the theaters?

POM and Kauai weddings are both wonderful!

Happy Monday!!! (yeah, probably too many exclamation points for Monday AM, but err, fake it til you make it?)

Anyway, I was contacted by Ryan at POM Wonderful to try some of their delicious pomegranate juice.

8 little bottles just for me!

The closest I had come to drinking pom-juice was along the lines of a Pomtini ;)  I was excited to try it au  natural and as a mix in for other drinks/food.

My immediate thought was to make a new cocktail — enter Pom-agne :D

A "shot" of POM filled with Moet champange

And then because I wanted to make something just a wee bit healthier, I made this on Sunday:

1 medium banana, 1/2 bottle POM, 1/3 packet Shakeology greenberry mix

Yeah it may have turned out brown, but it was de-lish!

On to the wedding…

In October of 2009, when I took my course to be professionally trained in Wedding and Events Consulting, I had to draft an entire wedding as one of my assignments, including budget, location, day-of schedule, gown/tux, favors, invitations, food and drink choices, etc.  It was quite the epic endeavor and I knew just what I wanted to do…my recently engaged friend Anne hinted she may want to get married in Kauai.  She gave me a modest budget and away I went.  Well without going through all the details, you can see she executed much of my plan!  It was a gorgeous wedding for two fabulous friends, Anne and Conor.

(Ignore the fact that the POM photos attached themselves to the slideshow.  GAH!  Did you notice that Kim is wearing my alternate dress that I showed here)

It was such a lovely, intimate wedding!  The highlights included seeing whales in the distance, the awesome mai-tais and veggie apps, fabulous dinner, delicious Lilikoi cake, and simply spending a little time with just Anne before the ceremony started.

Have you been to a destination wedding?  If so, where? All of the weddings we go to are not in the SF area, but the last true destination wedding was for my friend Andrew in Xcaret, Mexico (Summer, 2009).

Are you a fan of POM?  How do you use it?

Silicon Valley Women and Caitlin’s Closet

Another weekend bites the dust.  Sigh.

And can I just share how incredibly sore I am from Body Pump on Saturday?  It kicked my arse big time!  Not only did I kink my lower back, but then I think overcompensated by bad form and my thighs are paying for it.  Oye.

But the weekend started early for me as it was an off-Friday (which just meant I could work from home versus going in ;P).  Thursday night was our 4th Women of Silicon Valley night!

This time our host was the lovely Mojan, but truly the real host was Clarence:

Clarence owns the house

Yes this is a blurry picture.  No I didn’t have too much wine (at this point).  Clarence likes to move just as the picture is being taken.  He is one neurotic Puli (and I say that with love).  He has the most amazing dreaded fur and could easily dress up as a mop for Halloween ;)

Anyway, the food and wine spread was lovely:

Varieties of cheese, grapes and pears

Mmm, food galore

And now I must show you something you may never see again.  A dish made by Mojan.  Mojan does not cook.  She admits it.  She owns it.  She buys everything from Marie Calendars for Thanksgiving :)   But for us ladies, she went out of her way to make this pasta salad (go Mojan!):

Mushroom / Veggie pasta

And let’s not forget about sweets, shall we?

Strawberries for chocolate fondue!

So aside from all the food and (way too much) wine, we had a dual purpose for this get together.  Alice (originator of our Women nights) wanted to do a dress exchange / donation.  Each girl was to bring how ever many old dresses they had in their closets (bridesmaids dresses, party / cocktail dresses, summer dresses, etc) dry cleaned and ready to swap.  Those dresses that we couldn’t ‘recycle’ within would go to Caitlin’s Closet (check our her mission here!  “Building self-esteem one girl at a time”).  Caitlin recognized that every girl, no matter their economic situation or current life situation deserved to take part in life’s many parties (Prom, Homecoming…).  So she started this foundation in 2006 as a 17 yr old! How inspiring is she?!?!

About 12 of us in total were at Women’s night and most brought a dress to share.  I did take a picture, yet it’s beyond blurry (this I do blame on the wine).  We all gathered in Mojan’s bedroom and started throwing dresses around.  The most prevalent were old bridesmaids dresses and I’m happy to say that one I recently wore was snapped up by the host herself.  I also donated my wedding rehearsal dress — a cute Kensie dress that really needed a second chance ;)

I think after all was said and done, we donated maybe 6 dresses, which isn’t so bad.  And we completely agreed that this is something we want to do again, but maybe with purses and shoes!!!

Oh and just to show you how ridiculous we started to get, we even dragged out Mojan’s wedding dress and started trying it on…ha!

Another fantastic get together, with more new women to add to the fold.  It’s inspiring to be around so many fascinating ladies who share similar interests of food, vino, clothes, and work!

Have you done a dress exchange?

Do you have dresses to donate to Caitlin’s Closet?  Is there another foundation you’d also recommend?
