Not enough pictures

Hey there — are you still in a food coma?  I’m slowly emerging from my very delightful one.

I didn’t take nearly enough pictures over the weekend, so below are just a smattering of some along with some other odds and ends.

Wednesday afternoon, two of my girlfriend coworkers and I left early to attend a Dailey Method class.  We followed it by a Starbucks and a cake from Satura.  Totally normal right?

That evening I went on my baking frenzy: 2 pumpkin pies (one with crust, one without + 2 extra ramekins) and 2 full apple crisps.  Nom.

I ate both ramekins, 1 slice of the traditional pie and about 3/4th of the crustless pie.  I have no shame.

Bean was festive for the big day:

And by festive, I mean the turkey bib he sported.

Our friends did an incredible job with the turkey.  Dark meat was braised in some sort of apple cider something while the white meat was barbecued on the grill:

It was quite good…actually it was great.  That being said, I still think I may go back to being a vegetarian full time (I’m about veg 96% of the time these days).

Friday I completely avoided the malls, did some Xmas shopping online, and had a play date for Bean.  Much more enjoyable this way.

Saturday, however, I was able to force Zach to the Gilroy Outlets.  The shopping was a-maz-ing.  If only we had about 20 more hours.  No seriously.  Even Zach would have shopped more.  There was a line outside the Coach store just to be able to get in to shop.  I had to text Zach pictures while he waited outside — like this one, to see if it would fit my laptop:

Let’s just say, I found out it does ;)

I found a million other things to buy and Zach tried to see if he could get it and say it was for Xmas.  No.  Big fat no.  I’d rather get something I didn’t ask for than be present while getting my gift.  Am I the only one that feels this way?

Sunday was lovely and productive: morning hike, some ceramic painting, groceries, laundry, a big batch of chili, and cleaning.

The only thing that has me down starting into this week is my lack of leftover pumpkin pie :P

Real Housewives of Menlo Park?

Hi friends

Do Sundays make anyone else feel extremely anxious?  Despite getting my nails done today and going for a 1hr and 45 min hike, I feel frazzled.  I think it’s because I didn’t get done what I wanted today.  Argh.

You’re probably wondering what my title is about huh?  No I’m  not a RH of the Silicon Valley, though that would be highly amusing.  I went to my first Dailey Method class on Friday, which took place in Menlo Park.  My immediate thought was holy crap, I’m in a room full of women whom all could be on Real Housewives of Menlo Park.  They were all somewhere between 30-55ish, quite beautiful, had some works done (well done, I must say), were fit beyond belief and sporting Lululemon like it was the uniform.  Oh and they obviously didn’t work or happened to have the day off.

But perhaps you want to know about the class huh?  It was great!  I definitely worked all my muscle groups to the point of fatigue and even some cramping on the pulse movements.  It was pretty intense, though it didn’t feel too hard at the time.  My triceps have been burning all weekend.

I’d love to go more often, but at $20 a pop, I can’t say it’s quite worth that much.  I’d probably go a handful of times per year though.  I’ll stick to Spin as my main class-style exercise for now (which I did Saturday) ;)

After running baby-related errands on Saturday, Zach and I went to a new(er) restaurant in Mountain View for dinner: Barracuda.  We started with some beverages:

One of those isn’t mine :P

And ordered some apps of spicy edamame and crunchy sweet peas (not pictured):

Zach ordered a trio of items that also came with a salad and miso soup.  I think there was some pork dish, chicken teriyaki and of course sashimi.

I went with a vegetable fantasy roll with mango salsa and unari (rice filled tofu skin).

Everything was so so good!  I will definitely be returning here — in fact when my Mom is out in a few weeks, I may just have to take her with me!

As long as we’re talking about food, might as well share what I baked per Facebook request:

Um yeah, those would be peanut butter chocolate bars with mini Reeses PB cups on top, based off this recipe.  Since I’m still keeping my sugar in check, I had a small square to make sure they were share-worthy and immediately packed them all up for my and Zach’s coworkers.  Out of sight out of mind…I hope!

Alright, time to unwind with some vino and Olympics!

Ever felt like you were in the Real Housewives of…?

Favorite vegetarian sushi item?

Sawyer 7 month update

Good evening friends,

I hope you’re gearing up for Friday!  I have off tomorrow and am taking my first Dailey Method class with a friend (hi Mojan!).  It will also be the first time I’m making use of a ‘gym’ daycare for Bean (<–admittedly a little nervous about that).  The rest of the day is up in the air, though I’m thinking low key capped off by a homemade pizza night ;)

Last Saturday marked Bean’s 7 month birthday.  With each passing month, I feel a sense of sadness that my little baby is not so much a baby, but becoming a little boy.  I love all the new things he’s doing, but my heart also aches for how little he once was.  This just serves as a reminder to take in every single moment, every laugh, every new step…

So what’s new with my Bean?

He can stand (while holding on to something)

He now uses his highchair to eat.  It is the Ingelsina attaching highchair and I absolutely love love love it.  He can join us at our kitchen island while we eat and cleanup is a cinch since it’s just a matter of cleaning the island like normal.

He swings!  He loves it for a short while, but then I think gets a little overwhelmed.

He explored his first playground:

And of course, he practices being just plain adorable

Other fun facts (that are notable changes from the 6 month update)

  • Eats: 2 ‘meals’ of solids a day — usually rice cereal mixed with pureed fruit in the AM and veggies in the evening.  Bean loves all fruits, greek yogurt, and most veggies, but not broccoli (!) and is picky about textures.
  • Sleeps: 7p-7a on average with 2 1-hour naps or 1 2-hour nap and a shorter nap.
  • Sounds: dada (though I’m working on mama big time!), ttthhhh, daaaaaaaa.
  • Movements: no crawling, but can roll and rotate to where he wants to go.  Can sit up unassisted and can stand while leaning against something.
  • Toys: blocks, Jacque the Peacock (still), Sophi, random boxes, my hand, pieces of banana (yes, not really a toy), eating books, having books read to him (favorites = Mr Brown Can Moo, The Night You Were Born, Llama Llama Red Pajama, Larry’s Loud Roar)
  • Clothes: size 3 diapers by day, size 4 sleeper by nights.  Wears some 12-18 month onesies, shorts are usually 6-12 month.
  • Teeth: none!  Where are they???

One thing I’ve realized: I’m capturing Bean’s life on my iPhone — an old one at that (3GS)–due to its convenience.  I feel like most of his pics aren’t any better quality than the pics of me when I was a baby!  Hmm…

Are we losing quality for convenience?
