WIAW: everything I ate

Good morning to you all!  How are we on this 2nd day of November (ßMEEP!)?  Can I tell you how very happy I am that we are supposed to drop below 60 during the day tomorrow?  Yes I’m the weirdo that wants cold weather in Cali Smile with tongue out  I’m just over all my summer clothes and need a change.

Today it’s all about What I ate Wednesday (WIAW)!

This time around, I’m posting every single thing I ate. Tuesday  Oh yes, you read that right.  I’m telling you down to the cream in my coffee and any stolen treats.

photo(40)

720: PB coffee with regular decaf and 1+ tbsp FF vanilla creamer – 40 cals, 0g protein

845: 1 packet Quaker oats raisin and spice flavor + ¼ cup TJ’s plain oats – 220 cals, 6g protein

004 (17)

1140: Leftover BBQ rice mix, with roasted peppers / onions and 2 cut up smart dogs – 350 cals, 16g protein.  I don’t usually buy these rice mixes because they are so high in sodium, but I love me some BBQ and couldn’t resist.  Verdict? Meh.

145: Stawberry Chobani –  140 cals, 14g protein

005 (17)

320: 1 medium Ambrosia apple – 95 cals

400: ~10 TJ’s cinn-almonds and ~10 candy corns – 220 cals, 3g protein

001 (14)

640: 1 bowl turkey burger chili and 1 bag of plain Popchips for dipping – 450 cals, 10g protein

8p: hot cocoa with mini marshmallows – 200 cals, 1g protein

Total Cals = 1715
Total Protein =   50 g
Yikes!  Still way below what I need as a preggers girl, but I honestly don’t know how to squish anymore in my daily ‘diet’.  Help!

Fitness: 30 minute walk with the beast (Naava) and 30 minutes light weights

It’s always interesting to me when I really examine everything I’ve eaten.  It’s obvious that I eat majority of my calories after noon.  I’ve tried to front load more, but then I still end up eating just as much in the evening.  Pregnancy seems to make it worse too – especially with the sweets.  I now need a dessert every single night.  And then sometimes the floodgates open, the fat kid takes over, and nothing in the pantry is safe.  Last night I did good Winking smile

Also of note, I’m doing pretty good with the higher cal intake.  Pre-pregnancy, I’d eat about 1300-1400 calories a day max.  If I had a particularly strenuous workout, I may up that to 1500-1600.  Yesterday I ate about 1700 cal, I’m right on target for my +1 in my belly ;)

How often, if ever, do your record everything you eat?

How else can I get more protein without packing in a ton more calories?

Feeding addictions

Tis another Monday — are you ready for it?  I don’t mind them so much mostly because I thrive on routine and anything that keeps me busy throughout the day is a plus in my book.  Besides, I had a pretty good weekend ;)

It started with dinner with friends on Friday night at a (new to me place) Mario’s in Mountain View.  This place is tucked away and you’d have no idea it was here unless word of mouth helped ya out.  The food was great.  I mean, how can you not love a place that offers you piping hot, doughy, cheesy garlic bread a minute after entering?  I was a bad blogger and didn’t snap pics, but trust me when I say my personal pizza topped with onions and jalapenos was De-lish.  We will definitely be back.

Saturday was spent with my friend Rachel bracing the crazy torrential downpours (never happens in Cali in June) and shopping at the Gilroy outlets, which I hadn’t been to in close to 5 years.

Well, you know I have a minor addiction when it comes to shoes, right?

027

I had no luck on my shopping excursion Friday after work so I was definitely ready to make some purchases Saturday.  The result: no shoes.  None.  I found some potentially cute shoes at Nine West, but they weren’t the black sandals I was looking for for work and they weren’t a new pair of brown or gold gladiators to replace my other ones that lost a stone on top.

BUT, I prevailed and found a pretty darn cute pair on Endless.com that I purchased yesterday AM Winking smile  They’ll be showing up on Shoes-Day soon!

Finding shoes at the outlet mall was a bust, but finding purses was not.  I think I have a new addiction:

There may or may not be a 3rd purse lurking around too Embarrassed smile I needed a small black purse that I could stick in my carry-on for when I travel for work and then, I’ve been on the lookout for a great pink purse for ages.  It fit the bill.  And a few ladies in the store were coveting it, but I got the last one.  (Sorry, I’m not sorry).

I think I now have proof of a brewing coffee addiction (haha, ya like my pun Smile with tongue out):

Since I couldn’t leave Marshalls empty handed on Friday, I acquired my latest coffee addition – peanut butter cup.  Oh yes, yes it exists and it smells like pure goodness.  I can’t wait to open it.  Also from Marshalls is the Vermont maple nut (to die for) and the raspberry chocolate.  The chocolate macadamia is from Kauai; the Shenandoah Joe’s from Charlottesville; and the turtle from World Market. The question is, how long will it take for me to go through all of this?

When I was doing a little baking yesterday, I determined that these could easily become a new addiction:

I’ll post the baked products later this week (oh and Zach’s coworkers, if you’re reading, you should see them in the office today!  Hunt him down and make him share!)

Tell me, what are your addictions?  shoes? purses? granola bars? jeans? cocktail rings (<—that’s one of mine too)

Curried potato stew

There is a chill back in the air in NorCal and I couldn’t be happier!  The fact that it is about 45 degrees and raining tickles me pink.  Yeah I’m weird like that.  I guess you can take the girl out of WI but not WI out of the girl ;)

It’s days like these, that make me want soups and stews.  I made this Wed night and it was delish!

MMm, soup

Cooking Light Curried Potato Stew

  • 1 large onion diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 3 cups peeled diced potato
  • 3 cups butternut squash
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper
  • <1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 cup frozen peas thawed
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (with liquid)
  • 3/4 cup light coconut milk

The cookin' goods

The midpoint

The feast

Since I didn’t change anything about the recipe, I probably should not post the directions verbatim.  But like any stew, there’s not much magic to it when you just toss everything in.  The only ‘hint’ I have is to lightly nuke the tators before cutting — this will speed up the cooking time on the stove as well.

The star

Oh and be warned, somehow this recipe made quite the mess!

The mess

Now I’m equipped with leftovers and ready for the weekend.  :)

In the meantime, I need to go get myself a Venti Non-fat 4-pump vanilla latte because nothing makes cold weather more bearable than coffee!

Are you a Cooking Light fan?  Or do you prefer another cooking magazine?

Favorite rainy day activity? Mine are (in no particular order): reading, coffee runs, movies, shopping, and mani/pedis (hmmm, not all that different from a regular day!)
