Somehow, it has been 6 months since I gave birth to my beautiful little boy.
6 of the best months of my life (yes I say that despite all the horrible after-birth pain and emotional ups/downs).
Sawyer, or bean, or beeeeaaannnie as I tend to call him more often than not, is my angel on earth. To say we have been blessed is an understatement. Clearly I could gush on and on, so I’ll just give you the main points of where he’s at as of 6 months (1/2 year!):
- Weight: 18’4.5” – 63rd percentile
- Height: 27” – 69th percentile
- Head circumference: 17” – 70th percentile (<—big head = big brains?
)
Eats:
- Formula fed (no more breastmilk)
- Solids introduced June 2nd – foods so far: rice cereal, oatmeal with cinnamon, peas, carrots, summer squash, sweet potatoes, pears, bananas (all veggies/fruits are organic purees that I’ve purchased – hoping to make my own once we get in a good rhythm of eating)
- Likes: all veggies, but summer squash best. Dislikes: rice cereal and oatmeal. Loves: formula – he’s eating on average of 30-35 fl.oz. per day. He still uses the low flow Medela bottles and is primarily drinking Similac and some Enfamil.
- We have not given him juice or water yet, but did purchase sippy cups (for water or *drastically* watered down fruit juice)
Teeth: None, though the lower ones are about to pop through any day
Sleep:
- Goes down at about 7 or 730 after a jammie change and a bottle (Zach’s job)
- Wakes up anywhere between 430a and 730a for the first time. If he wakes up before 7a, he takes a 4oz bottle and falls back asleep until 730 or 8a
- He falls asleep with his binky, but is fine if it happens to fall out
- Likes to have the muslin burp cloth on his face when he sleeps (or other lightweight blanket, like his lovey monkey blankie), which totally makes us uncomfortable!
- Naps for 1 hours in the AM and 2 hours in the early-mid PM. Sleeps in crib for one of the naps and his car seat for the other
Activities/toys:
- Smiles and laughs all the time
- Loves Jacque the Peacock
- Enjoys putting the garanimal books in his mouth
- Jumps up and down in his jumparoo and can spin around in it
- Can roll (more adept at one side than the other) and go from back-to-tummy and tummy-to-back
- Loves playing with his feet. Eating his feet is also quite fun.
- Loves petting/grabbing the animals fur
- Cracks up when chasing the dog (in our arms)
- Enjoys pulling on my face and hair
- Swimming – well okay he went in the pool once, but I think he liked it
- Sitting up with some assistance
- Laughing while daddy reads books
- Likes hearing the ABC song and Twinkle, Twinkle
Sounds:
- In the AM, he likes to make a “ttthhh” sound, which is weird since I thought you needed teeth to do that
- Blowing spit bubbles and making a raspberry sound with his lips
- “hehehehehe” usually when he’s laughing
- “Neeeee” when he’s about to fuss (sign of hunger)
- “ehhhh” when on belly – it’s a fine line between happy noises and about to fuss
- “ahhhh, gaahhh” is his babbling / talking sounds
Clothes:
- Cannot fit in his 3-6 month clothes, but can fit in some strictly 6 month items
- Mostly wears 6-12 month or 9 month clothes
- Wears a size 3 diapers (Pampers Swaddlers) and size 4 at night
- Prefers to be pantsless (don’t we all..ha!)
And just for fun, take a look at what Bean looked like around 6 weeks – my how he’s grown!
Have a safe and happy 4th my friends!
OMG <3. That hat is TOO adorable. Thanks for sharing him with us!
Of course — it’s my duty to share his cuteness
Wow. I can’t believe it’s been 6 months already. That flew by eh?
It sure did!
He’s so cute! My 5 month old seems to be the same size and do alot of the same things as Sawyer. Except that 12 hour sleep thing, we get 7-8.5 hours a night which means one early morning feeding which I’d love to drop!
Oh and his head isn’t big, it’s proportionate! That’s what I tell myself with a baby who’s in the 90th percentile for all 3.
This is true — I guess if all numbers are the same, then it’s proportional!
He’s getting so big! What a cutie!
He is a big boy! And a big cutie
He is so yummy! His daddy was in the 15 th percentile for weight and off the charts for height at one year! I swear we fed him. He looked like a string bean. Also his nickname was pumpkin head! That’s why you love him
Haha pumpkin head..cute!
Aw I love the baby picture of him in that little hat! My 10 month old is the same weight but about 3 inches taller, a little string bean! And don’t worry, she has a big head too
See this is why I think my baby is fat!!!
my first was fat and I loved all her rolls! My second one sleeps too much to ever be awake to eat, but i can’t complain too much there!
Awwww he is just so darn cute!! It’s freaky how similar our babies are!!! Ben and Bean have the same food faves and penchant for sleeping with the lovey monkey on their face!! Every night Ben strategically places that thing over his entire face and it totally freaked me out at first!! I’ve stopped bothering to remove it since he puts it right back on a minute later!! Ben also adores ripping the dogs fur out and grabbing my face! Those tiny little fingers are strong! I can’t believe how much I love my little boy and how the love gets stronger everyday!!!
How cute would it be for bean and ben to meet!?!?
I kinda love how much he loves the lovey monkey blankie so I let him do what he wants with it.
What kind of dog do you have? Ours is a shepherd/sharpei mix with pretty long fur..and a very gentle demeanor (thank god!)
Super cute…love all the detail! One day you’ll be able to come back and read all this too…which is a great thing about having a blog.
Thanks Ameena and that’s exactly why I post them — for my own future reference
He is SO SO SO SO SO cute!!! Aghhh!!!!!! Time really flew by! Ella loves squash too! Isn’t solid food fun??? I’m telling you..banana and avocado pureed, it’s a winner! Creamy healthy fats, and babies love it!!!! We never did rice, and I didn’t do oats until recently, she loves them cooked with mashed banana, chia and hemp and a little coconut oil and cinnamon (and sun butter LOL) lots of healthy fats for growing baby brains!!!
My one piece of unsolicited advice…don’t even do the watered down juice. It’s reallllllly not recommended anymore at all. There’s a big sign in my Ped’s office now even. The fructose in juice is really bad for their liver and their teeth! Even watered down juice (which is pure fructose and no fiber) I hate being “that person” that does this, but thought I would just pass along what I’ve learned! I would not have known since it seems a lot of moms do it, and after lots of research, I’m glad I never did! It’s like pretty much teaching him to have more of a sweet tooth super early on also. You will do what you think is best…you’re doing an awesome job!
Thanks Laury =) This reminds me — I need to do avocado! Zach loves it, so he can be the one to offer it up to the bean.
I’m super resistant to the juice thing. I figure why give them a taste of the sweetness when you don’t have to.
Your points are all well taken
He is absolutely perfect! And he makes me even more excited for the arrival of my baby boy.

Awww you are having a boy! So exciting!!!
Jeez, what a perfect baby bean boy!
I think so too Jordan
I seriously cannot believe it’s already been 6 months-wow. Adorable!
He’s SO adorable! Too cute that he’s babbling. W still just screaches. I can’t wait until he makes more word-like sounds.
They’re growing up so fast
He is so adorable!!! Love these picture of bean! Way cute!

Oh my, he has grown. He looks so cute and I can’t believe it has been 6 months already.
I still remember when my nephew was at that age, now he is a small person walking around everywhere.
