I’ve decided to get a new gym membership. I ended mine last year when I was pregnant since I wanted to mostly do prenatal yoga at my parenting studio and easy cardio at my apartment gym. Now I’m realizing I miss the rigor and structure of classes. So I’m going back, my friends!
And what’s better is that Zach is going to get home early (like 530p) one day a week so I can make it to an evening Spin class. Score!
Other than that, this Tuesday isn’t all the exciting.
However, I did manage to clean out my shoe closet this weekend. Sadly all these shoes are going into “retirement”:
Some I never wear (like the striped wedges in the back), some are just dying ( the Enzo boots in the way back, the ruffle Madden girls are ripping) and some heels have just had enough:
See that? The screw is exposed. It’s unbelievably annoying to listen to as you walk down a hall. Now I realize I could go to a shoe cobbler and fix this, but the likelihood of me doing so is pretty slim.
I wasn’t completely prepared to toss them, but my bestie said that that’s what she does when her heels “die.” I figured if I got a few good years out of the shoe, then it was time to let go.
(The shoes that were still in great shape are off to Goodwill)
I decided to take a picture of those that I’m getting rid of so that I don’t have a heart attack looking for them some day, not realizing I tossed them. That and to remember which shoes I need to replenish. Like the staple nude shoe. I’m pretty sad to toss these, but the heel is shattered so go, they must.
Do you actually fix your shoes/heels or toss them?
What’s a staple shoe for you? I have to say a nude heel and perhaps a grey sandal based on the frequency I wear both.
I have one favorite pair of black dress boots that I’ve intended to get fixed for the past two years but it just hasn’t happened yet…
Yup, exactly my point…I have great intentions too (like those cute black booties up front), but I know I never will, so off they went to shoe heaven
I’m sure there will be plenty of comments on people who take their shoes to cobblers. I’m just too lazy. It’s like my rule to make 95% of my wardrobe washing machine friendly – because I never go to the dry cleaner. So, lazy is reason number 1, and reason number 2 is that I like buying new shoes. I wear my shoes into the ground so if I went to a cobbler I would almost never need new ones, and I like buying new ones. They freshen up my outfits and make me feel happy.
Buying shoes makes me happy too. And at some point, you do just get sick of wearing the same ol’ thing.
I had a pair of boots that I had fixed twice (they were Forever 21 and super cheap) but I think it’s finally time to say good bye to them. When you only spent 40 dollars on a pair of boots, it really isn’t worth it to invest all the money into fixing them. I was super bummed, though, when they got messed up this last time. I didn’t know what to wear with my outfits anymore.
Right now, my go-to shoes are a pair of beige wedges. They match everything and make my legs look longer. All in all, they’re pretty great shoes
Beige/nude/tan all are great staples!
If I were to have spent over $150 on any of the shoes above, I’d be more inclined to fix them, but most of them I got great deals on at Marshalls or Endless.com or the like.
I bit the bullet and threw out a bunch of my old shoes in December. It was kind of heartbreaking. I kept telling myself I was going to take the worn down ones in, but deep down I knew I was NEVER going to get any of them fixed. That’s just too much effort when I can simply buy new ones online and never even have to get up.
Haha yes yes yes. That’s what I do..just buy new ones online and don’t have to hunt down a cobbler, drive there, pick up the shoes a week later, etc etc
Ahhh I need to clean out my shoe closet as well!!! I HATE when the metal parts stick out. It’s such an annoying sound!! Some of my favorite heels need to be repaired
ugh!
Will you repair them or just buy new ones?
I am glad you are getting a gym membership again. Anyways…gah shoes…I buy so many unneeded pairs seriously. Then they sit in my closet for ages…I ought to retire some eventually.
I tend to buy some pairs that I don’t end up loving but keep anyway. That’s my bad on that one!
Awesome- you are getting a gym membership again!
I know! I’m stoked!
All you peeps who don’t get your shoes fixed should send them to me and I’ll get them fixed and love them.
Going to a cobbler is easy!!
If you lived closer you could love on ALL my shoes
I re-heel shoes often. Mostly because I just can’t let go of the ones I really love!
However, I’ve reheeled the black boots I have, I think this winter I just really need to splurge on a new pair…
Agreed! With that new job surely you deserve them
I’ve never fixed a shoe before…but I dont wear my dress shoes as much as you! I live in sneakers so my heels get worn, in a rotation, once a weekend, but really once or twice a month..per season. I thnk it’s easy though. I know plenty of people that bring their shoes to the shoe guy (not sure what it’s called?) at our mall.
Haha “the shoe guy”. I guess I need one of those!
you’re doing the responsible thing shanna! ha
Glad you are getting your groove back in the gym. I recently got a gym membership myself just so that I could use the elliptical as cardio is getting harder with the growing belly! Low impact please!!
