Sawyer at 4(+) months

Hey there!

Back from a glorious weekend.  We had some people over for Cinco de Mayo and I finally tried Skinnygirl Margarita.  The verdict: tastes like margaritas.  Did I like it?  No, not really.  Why?  Because I don’t like margaritas.  I’m a moron.  I had a feeling it would taste more like lime/lemonade, but it still had that tequila-y flavor.  Blech.  This is why I’m a wine/champagne girl.  Anyway the food was fab, as was the company.

Backing up to Friday, we had to take bean in for his 4 month pediatrician appointment…meaning more shots.  Poor guy.  He doesn’t look like it affected him as much as me though does it?

May 4 2012 doctor visit

No worries, he’s not screaming, he’s just trying to eat his shirt (because anything close to his mouth, goes in his mouth).  So Sawyer’s stats at 4 months and 4 days are:

  • Head circumference – 16.7”, 53rd percentile
  • Length – 25.9”, 80th percentile
  • Weight – 16.0lbs, 68th percentile

I was fearing I was feeding him too much since I felt like he was looking like a chubba-wubba, but according to the (loose) rule of 2.5oz per pound, I was actually under feeding him.  He eats about 26-30oz of formula per day and based on his weight, he could drink up to 40!  Meep!  His doctor said that we can start solids at any time since his head control is good.  I probably will wait another month or so (I think it’s me that’s not ready!)

He really is getting big though.  He’s no longer this fragile infant, but rather a little man, full of personality (smiling is his favorite).

What he’s been doing:

  • Holds his head up on his own (meaning, he can sit in his Bumbo, jumparoo, and on our laps)

May 1 2012

  • Role to his sides from his back.  He actually likes sleeping on his side in the AM.
  • He sleeps in his crib in his own room (has been since Easter weekend)
  • He sleeps mostly through the night: goes down between 8-830p and wakes up once at 430a-ish, then back to sleep until 730 or 8a.
  • Puts everything in his mouth – his favorites seems to be his hands, burp cloth, and bib
  • He is actually amused by his toys and likes to grab onto them, especially if they make noise or crinkle
  • He also likes to grab onto his hair, which is starting to fall out.  His hair from birth has gotten so long it goes well past his ears and is giving him quite the little mullet Winking smile  New lighter fuzz is coming in.
  • His nails grow like weeds and require me to cut them at least twice a week or he wrecks havoc on his poor face
  • He giggles/laughs/smiles incessantly and my heart melts each and every time he does it
  • He coos and talks and is most vocal in the AM when he’s in bed with us
  • He’s 99% formula fed at this point
  • His favorite song seems to be Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (no thanks to my singing)
  • He’s becoming quite the drool monster – no teeth yet
  • Tummy time – still doesn’t love it, but can now flip over on his back

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Sawyer is the best thing that has ever happened to me.  I truly feel blessed to be his mom.

  1. Such a big, cute boy! We need to cut Wyatt’s nails 2 times a week, too. They grow SO fast! But we’ve never had to cut his toenails. Makes no sense!

  2. We haven’t either, though they do look a little long at times ;)

  3. Glad you got to celebrate a lil’ in the Cinco de Mayo festivities. Is it weird that we were out and about, but barely mentioned the holiday? And sadly, no margs were consumed. Ah well… next time…

  4. Cookie

Damn he is SO cute. No prejudice whatsoever! Melts my heart!

  5. Priya

Cuteness galore! :-) His smiles and giggle are just so precious..

  6. Whhaaa- you don’t like margaritas?? That’s crazy talk. Not that I’m judging. ;) Glad you had a good weekend!

  7. Awww, I LOVE this post! I love hearing what’s goin on with the little Bean. :) It sounds like he’s growing up so fast! He’ll practically be a teenager by the time you guys visit ;) .

  8. Margaritas are the only way I can drink tequila. I LOVE margaritas.

I keep saying this, but I have a feeling you dont mind – Sawyer is so freaking adorable Shanna. You guys did good work. :)

  9. Such a gorgeous baby! …. although why I would expect anything less from such a gorgeous lady I dont know!

  10. He is so freakin cute, Shanna! And I’m glad he’s a healthy little boy. Always good to hear!

  11. What a little stud muffin! He sounds like such a great easy going baby. I’m so jealous he is sleeping in his own room. I’m still trying to get Cameryn out of our bed. We got her in her crib (in our room) last night sleeping (after 90 minutes of trying to get her to sleep) and then my hubs threw the dog a toy a second later and the dog jumpped up and banged into things making a loud noise and the baby woke up. How did you guys get Sawyer to sleep in his own room? I love that he is giggling and smiling so much! I think C had her first giggle last night but I’m not positive. Isn’t this stage just so much fun?

    • This stage is awesome!

C will go to her crib soon enough I’m sure. You could try putting her down with your hand on her tummy and sit near the crib for 30 min or so in case she wakes up, she will know you are there. Sawyer went in rather easily which was a bi of a shock. After his 430a feeding he still comes in bed with us ;)

  12. Sooo cute! 4 months already?!

Question: did you blog about your transition going back to work? I head back to work in a week and the thought of it makes me cry! I’m hoping it won’t be as hard as I imagine it but…..?? I’d love any advice!

  13. I really cannot believe he is four months old already. That is amazing. I’m glad he is sleeping through the night-I bet that takes a lot of stress off of you! ;)

  14. What a cutie, he is huge and adorable!

  15. Oh my god, disliking margaritas is sacrilegious!! Sawyer is looking adorable, as usual :)

  16. Heather

My little lady, Avery Grace, turned 4 mos Friday and had her appt too :) aside from rolling from tummy to back(she hates tummy time ) they are literally doing the exact same things! So neat!

  17. He is such a sweet little nugget! I love seeing how big he’s getting :)

  18. He is so cute! And I did solids with both M and B around 5 months even though docs said I could start at 4 months. I was like you – I didn’t want to believe they were big enough yet.

  19. Yey!!!! Omg he’s SO cute! And SUCH a big boy!! Ella had been in the 17th percentile for weight . At 1 year she shot up so much length wise and is down to the 2nd percentile! Right now I am bulking up her meals with coconut oil, sun butter, lots of high calorie fats in the small portions she will eat (plus I;m still breastfeeding but concerned my supply has dropped since she eats a lot of solids). She’s super healthy though, doc wasn’t concerned…he said it happens a lot at her age to babies who grow one way, but the weight didn’t catch up. She’s my lil’ peanut.

And I would totally wait til he was 6 months. I read a lot about it (I actually gave Ella avocado at 5 months, once, then waited…I skipped rice, it’s processed and not great for their delicate GI system). I may even do baby led weaning next time around. Each baby is an individual but you should find what works for you guys. I LOVE the book “Raising Healthy Happy Babies” by Kim Corrigan..and her entire website has so much info on starting solids. I cam across it when Ella was 4 months and my doc discussed starting rice cereal. I;m SO glad that I did!!!!! Ella has been so healthy, her GI tract has been amazing (knock on wood), no issues, so happy and healthy and thriving!

I’m a text away if you ever have questions about anything with the solids!
