Shoes-Day! Taupe bootie repeat

Hey there!

How was everyone’s weekend and Monday?  I spent Friday night catching up with the faboosh Shayla of The Good Life over Mexi food.  Total win-win situation.  And she was so kind and got me a GC to a spa –  I’m making her go with me Winking smile  (twisting her arm on that one)

Saturday was spent steam cleaning carpets (oddly enough, I love this) and having a scrumptious dinner made by our friends Dan and Kate (thanks guys!).

Yesterday I began going through the claim process for reporting the butthead that hit my car in my apartment complex 2 weeks ago and didn’t leave a note.  Therefore I  have to pay the deductible to get a whole new bumper.  Let’s hope karma comes back and bites him (or her) in the booty.

Moving on…

Below is the outfit I wore Friday night to meet up with Shayla:

In the mix is a olive military jacket (via Marshalls), black ruffle top from White House Black Market, 7 for All Mankind jeans, and taupe patent leather booties by Steve Madden (gift from bestie!).

Here are the booties up close:

These shoes definitely have some height to go with their funk appeal.  I don’t wear them nearly enough but I should.  Next time around, I’ll wear them with skinny jeans – they get rather lost under a boot cut.

Oh and since the bean also joined us for dinner, here is what he wore:

Red plaid onesie and black pants from Baby Gap and brown knit booties from Shayla Smile

Do you think booties go better with skinny jeans or boot cut?  Or does it depend on the shoe?

8 weeks postpartum–better news?

Well two weeks ago, I wrote about the bad news I received at my 6 weeks postpartum visit – you know, scar tissue requiring surgery, muscle/nerve damage, low estrogen, and other issues.

Since then I’ve gone to see a specialist for the muscle/nerve issue and also had a follow up with my OB on Wednesday.

Regarding the former, there is definitely nerve damage and loss of muscle, but no tearing, so therefore no surgery is required.  Only time will heal.

My OB checked me again to assess the granulated scar tissue, and good news!  The large section that she thought would require surgery has disappeared!  One silver-nitrate treatment did the trick.  Phew!  Unfortunately there were some others that she either missed before or didn’t heal completely because I had to have another round.  Let’s hope that this is the last of it.

She also is having me start estrogen tablets – one of the benefits may help my breast milk supply.

While all of that is fabulous news, I’m a bit disheartened at my weight loss.  I still have 10 lbs to go.  Blah.  I’m not the only one that holds onto weight and doesn’t have this perfect celebrity weight loss 3 weeks after giving birth.  My friend Laury just wrote about it on her blog and I’m so grateful she did.  I had expectations of myself that weren’t realistic.  Some people hold onto additional fat in order to breastfeed.  The fact of that matter is, it may not be until I stop or greatly reduce breastfeeding before anything really starts to happen.  I get that.  I’m trying to wrap my brain around it.  But that doesn’t mean I am happy about it Winking smile

Soooo, what’s a girl to do?   She shops.  And she sucks it up and buys a pair of non-maternity jeans that are one size larger than her pre-preg jeans so that she can dress this new body.  So there.

The thing is, I’m active, I’m moving, I’m getting out, I’m seeing a ton of friends, I’m enjoying every minute of being a mom to my soybean.  And that has nothing to do with my weight.

And the bean?  How’s he?  He’s absolutely fabulous – dare I say faboosh?  I just weighed him again on Wednesday at the birthing center and he weighs ~ 10 lbs 13 oz (with a onesie and diaper on).  That’s over a 2 lb gain since birth!  Way to go bean Smile with tongue out  He is a happy little baby and is smiling more and more and making fun little cooing sounds.  Thanks to bringing back swaddling last week (I use the Swaddle Me brand), he is sleeping 6-7 hours a night.  Love this!  We’re working on tummy time and introducing some toys and books, but most often, I just gossip to him about whatever train wreck is on tv (i.e. Bachelor, Real Housewives, Live with Kelly…haha).

Oh and now that we’ve sent out our baby announcements, I can share with all of you, what they look like:

And now that it’s nearly the weekend, we all can smile a little bigger Smile  I have a special dinner date with a certain lovely lady Friday evening.  The rest of the weekend is up in the air, though I’m thinking froyo needs to be scheduled in Winking smile

What are your weekend plans?  Inspire me!

Let’s catch up, shall we?

I think the one week hiatus was one of the longest I’ve gone since starting my blog (in May 2010 <—wow!).  Like I said, I just wasn’t feelin’ it.  I’ve gone back and forth recently on whether I want to keep it up as much as I have.  I’ve enjoyed blogging to record what’s gone on in my pregnancy and now with my lil’ Soybean here, but other than that, I’m not extremely motivated in the HLB  community as of late.  Perhaps that’s because my blog really doesn’t fit in the “healthy living blog” genre.  Ultimately my blog is just a diary of my life…

Anyway…

Let’s catch up.

Valentine’s Day was spent with little hoopla and fanfare.  Instead we opted for some vino, spaghetti and meatballs at home with the bean.  He splurged on some formula.  What a wild man.

Feb 13 2012 smile

Wednesday I went to a Mommy and Me class that was fabulous.  I am loving bonding with new mommies and spending the day talking about all the craziness we’re experiencing.

Thursday 2 of my new mommy friends came over for a lunch date and more gossip.  We tried convincing the lil ones to pose for a pic, but Sawyer was not having it.  Poor guy!

Friday Zach’s brother arrived along with his fiancé to meet the soybean!  He’s so lucky to be so loved by all his family Smile  Despite having a 7 week old, we were able to do quite a bit in the short time they were here:

Saturday: Coffee shop in the AM, SF in the afternoon – Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square and drinks at McCormicks, then Little Italy for an early dinner.

Feb 18 2012 Pier 39

Sunday: AM walk to the coffee shop, excursion to Nebbia Winery in Half Moon Bay, followed by lunch at Moss Beach Distillery, and a stroll and sparkling wine at Ritz Carlton.

Feb 20 2012 Moss beach

We capped off the visit with some Cali staples: In & Out and Pinkberry.  Btw, the salted caramel froyo is ah-maz-ing!

So there ya go.  That’s what’s been happening in a nutshell.  And while you’re reading this, I’m at at follow up doctor’s appointment with the OB.  Wish me luck!
