Where did the weekend go?
We had our Babymoon and it was fabulous – just what we needed. Recap coming tomorrow ![]()
As I mentioned last week, I met up with Shayla from The Good Life
We are trying a new contemporary Indian restaurant called All Spice in the SF Bay Area.
Shayla already provided an excellent recap here, so I’ll do an abbreviated version below:
Top left was an amuse-bouche red pepper soup that was fantastic – I easily could have eaten a bowl. Next was a fritter stuffed with mushrooms (<—I HATE mushrooms and didn’t even know they were in there!) – this was one of my fave items of the night, served atop curried chickpeas (a la chaana masala). And finally a ricotta cheesecake with pureed beets (the app special of the evening) – this was good, but probably my least favorite item of the entire meal.
And for our entrees that we split, we chose the Hara Kebab, which wasn’t a kebab at all, but more like Indian gnocchi with brussel sprouts. This dish was so very yum! And that crazy beast next to it was the Eggplant Dosa. And while I’m also not a huge eggplant fan, I thought this was fantastic – slightly smoky with some tomato chutney within. And oddly enough this huge serving was the cheapest on the menu – go figure ![]()
We snapped a photo after our meal: Shayla, me, and belly! It now deserves it’s own shout out, haha!
And though we were tempted by the desserts at All Spice, we made the right decision and headed down the street aways for Yogurtouille
for the win!
We taste tested the strawberry shortcake flavor and thought it was delish, but we’re all about our chocolate toppings so we kept it simple with vanilla and then loaded up – best parts? Coated animal cookies and marshmallow drizzle!
Just like the last time I met up with Shayla, we had a ridiculously good time. This girl is freakin’ awesome. Period. We have so much in common and we’re already looking forward to a low key pedi date next time ![]()
I did get to thinking about how interesting it is to meet new people in my ‘current state’ (aka pregnancy).
While I still feel like myself, I feel like there is this elephant in the room that ends up being very much the focus of my thoughts, my conversations, and my being.
Normally I’d meet up with someone for the first time, decked out in cute skinny jeans, funky heels, flattering top, and feeling pretty confident. Now I realize I’m meeting people with a fuller face, wider hips, and clothes that aren’t quite standard. It’s just an odd feeling. I can’t quite describe it.
And of course, I’ve got baby on the brain so inevitably so much of what comes out of my mouth is about the little one inside me. I really try to keep that balanced and not overloaded, but I have no idea if I’m doing a good job.
It’s also a bit unique not to be able to socialize over vino! There’s no, hmmmm, buffer if you will. Nothing to ease the nerves and potential awkwardness.
All that being said, I’m glad it’s Shayla that I’ve met for the first time because there were no reservations, no awkwardness, no feeling bad about too much baby talk. Pretty awesome if you ask me ![]()
Tell me, what did you do this weekend?
Have you ever hard contemporary Indian food?
Do you find certain events in your life change your persona a bit?
aw looks like such a fun meetup, ladies!! i’ve never had contemporary indian food…or even regular indian food really! i’m so behind on that “ethnicity” of eats!
I hope you try some soon Caitlin — Indian food has such great flavor!
Oh how fun!!! I have never tried Indian food but I have wanted to! I feel like I wouldn’t know what to order because I am so unfamiliar with it. Nothing beats Froyo for dessert
One of the easiest dishes to start with is chaana masala — it’s chickpeas in Indian spices/sauce. So good, so simple! And order with a side of naan!
I have never had “contemporary” Indian food! So unique! I’m going to lookout for places like this now. Thanks! And I had fro-yo twice in a 24 hour period…so good!
It was an interesting twist — the traditional flavors were there, but were mixed in with other elements that aren’t typicall associated with Indian food.
Looks like you guys had a great time! I’m a huge fan of Indian food, though I just had it for the first time last year. I feel like they offer so many more veggie options!
I agree Molly — the veggie options are so nice to have!
I love Indian food and haven’t had it in forever! Must change that ASAP. And your little baby bump is so adorable.
Yes must fix asap Jess!
I totally think having a baby changes how you think and what comes out of your mouth all the time. I seriously have the little lady on my brain 24/7. I probably talk about her way too much but it makes me happy so I don’t care!
I can’t wait to hear about your babymoon! We didn’t even think about doing one and probably wont now with the holidays coming up!
It makes me happy to talk about my lil man too
Luckily most people seem to be okay with it, but I know it can be a bit much sometimes too!
Hopefully the holidays will be like a babymoon in itself!
That doesn’t look like a kebab to me either. Crazy. I haven’t had contemporary Indian food, but I bet I’d like it.
I think people not only understand expecting moms to talk about their babies, they expect it. I wouldn’t worry about that at all, but it’s considerate of you to be conscious of potential baby overload.
Yeah I had no idea what to expect with contemp Indian, but was pleased!
Love love love Indian food! I just stocked up on some TJs Indian dishes because I was craving it and didn’t have time to go out to eat. Mmmmm. Looks like you guys had a blast! Can’t wait to come visit you and the bump.
Carly was just talking about her Indian food from TJ’s too
Is that the cutest froyo name ever or what? Although I love Indian, I don’t eat it much. I’m too busy eating Italian
Haha I’m sure it’s different meeting new people, with no wine
Haha it’s funny but I can totally understand!
You look LOVELY though and it sounds like you had a good time! I’m jealous of the fro-yo!
I can’t tell you enough how faboosh you look
So don’t be hard on yourself! Seriously you are super styling! More than I was pregnant…or after hahaa.
You girls are both gorgeous and glad you had a great time!!! Wait until Sawyer is here…it gets worse with the wanting to filter the baby talk!
Thanks so much Laury!! You’re the sweetest
Well girly, I love the Shanna I met and now have become friends with, pregnant or not
I think you’re very balanced with normal and baby talk, and personally, it’s what I love to talk about right now
and you’re such a blast to hang out with!! You could talk about it for days…it makes me so excited to meet the lil guy too
And it makes me happy we hit it off so well because I can be very shy and socially awkward, lol!
Can’t wait to hear all about your babymoon!!
Aww you’re so sweet for putting up with my Shayla
I’m looking forward to our next hangout — pedis and maybe the new froyo place?
Yes please!!! Maybe a Saturday or Sunday during the day….let me know whenever you’re free
Glad you had fun. All the food looks amazing, and I LOVE the belly! So cute.
I love modern Indian food…sometimes even better than the real thing. And London has the best stuff!
I know you don’t feel like yourself but I assure you that you look fabulous! In any case, I’ve been in your shoes so I know what you are going through.
Hahahaha!!! I love this post!! I could imagine not drinking the vino while prego and out would throw a wrench in my works too…..ugh.
You look AMAZING hotness!!!
