Happy Monday friends!
How was your weekend? Mine was Faboosh. And yes, I’m on an ‘F’ theme ![]()
As you know my Dad was out visiting and we had a blast. Best part about it is knowing he will be back out in January to meet Sawyer!
Friday I didn’t have too much in store, but had to get some stuff checked off the ol’ to-do list and my Dad happily obliged to join me.
First up was the dreaded pregnancy glucose test
We didn’t’ need an appointment, but sheesh, the line was like 50 people long in the lab area. Blah. I weasled my way into the front so I could start chugging the drinks, since I would have another hour of waiting before they could take my blood.
The ‘drink’ is about 10 ounces of clear liquid. Mine was lemon-lime flavored and tasted like those freezie pops you had as a kid, but with about ten times the sugar. Yick! Sooo sickeningly sweet! Right after I had it, I could tell I was already getting a sugar-rush headache.
When my hour was up, I hopped on the chair and offered up my arm for sacrifice. I’m a huge wuss, but with pregnancy, I’ve become accustomed to having blood taken. The guy was quick and easy and two vials were done like that.
Then things started going downhill…
Fast…
My vision became blurred, dizziness overtook me, and I had to put my head down on the table. My blood pressure immediately dropped and I began to sweat through my clothes.
I managed to shuffle to the bed and lay down, but I was pretty darn close to fainting. Meep! I blame it on the supreme sugar rush and then the blood draw causing me to crash.
Not fun, people, not fun!
But let’s move on to the happier times with the father
shall we?
Horray for Dad and me at La Fondue, in Saratoga
(Do you did my bright red short Michael Kors trench? Bonus is that I can almost button all buttons…winning!)
Check out their menu – it’s amazing:
My Dad and hubby were most excited about the exotic meats. I myself, had a hankering for their spinach salad beast with lemon taragon dressing – it’s quite possible one of the best salads I’ve ever ordered at a restaurant and easily could be a very filling meal:
Next up, we did the 4-cheese fondue with a ton of veggies and bread – we agreed that the cheese was super stinky, but tasty nonetheless:
Then came the entrée (though we were already soooo full). I went with veggies (peppers, zucchini butternut squash, tofu, red onions). The boys however went with some crazy meat choices: Savage Wild Duck, Teriyaki Sirloin, Alligator Tail, Wild Buffalo, Antelope, and Kangaroo. They both thought the alligator was their favorite.
And finally, the piece de resistance – the chocolate fondu. Come to me sweet deliciousness! We went with milk chocolate and English toffee bits. Oh dear god. I die. For dippings we had: strawberries, oranges, cookie dough, cream puffs, snickers, pound cake, bananas, marshmallows, grapes, cheesecake balls, rice krispies, apples, and wafer cookies. My faves were the cookie dough, pound cake, and cream puffs. My mouth is watering just thinking about it all.
By the end of the meal, we were painfully full. Can you tell?
What do you think about fondue?
Have you ever fainted?
Best thing about your weekend?
La Fondue! Oh how I miss being so painfully full!
Looks like an awesome time with your Dad S!
It was sooooo good A. I think I’m good for going back for at least another 6-9 months
I fainted once, and have come close many times. Its not fun. I’m glad you caught yourself in time.
That fondue looks amazing. I’ve only ever had chocolate fondue, but it didn’t come anywhere close to what you had.
Yeah, fainting is pretty blah. It’s happened to me about a dozen times. Not cool, not cool at all.
This place’s fondue is so freakin’ amazing. It’s like nothing anyone has ever had!
Ugh, I hate fainting. I used to pass out all the time when I was younger and it was awful. I still get little panic attacks anytime I’m in a situation where it happened before (getting blood drawn, standing in a warm room for too long, etc.)
LOVE the red coat by the way, super chic!
Ugh, yeah standing in crowded rooms can get to me too..not fun
Yay for good times with Dad!
Fondue dinners are my favorite. I think I’m overdue for one
Sounds like a good enough reason to schedule a fondue date then!
I LOVE fondue! We like making it at home everyone now and again! I’ve never fainted, but have come close a few times. I usually only come close if my blood sugars drop and I have nothing to snack on. Also since becoming pregnant, I’ve had a few close calls but now keep my purse stocked with snacks and always take it easy when I start feeling a little light headed. Thankfully most of that has gone away since moving into second tri! It looks like you had lots of fun with your Dad! Family visits are the best! I’m glad you enjoyed your weekend!
I hear ya Kjirsten — out of nowhere I’ll be extremely low blood sugar so I have to make sure to always have a little something extra near by so I don’t pass out or get really really really cranky
That “ready to faint” feeling is the worst. i’ve had it only a few times… but man… no good!
I like fondue, but really don’t enjoy going out to fondue restaurants. The last time I went to one, cooking the meat myself really made me nervous…
I agree with you on the meat — don’t love that part, but grilling it is sooo much easier to gage.
Glad to hear you’re ok! Fainting is the worst…I’ve definitely come close before when I’ve let my blood sugar drop to low from accidentally going to long without eating…I start feeling that hot flush dizziness feeling, but I’ve stopped myself from actually blackening out…no fun indeed!
Ahhhh love love Fondue!! We have a Melting Pot here but I think La Fondue is even better, it’s the best! My fav part is obviously the chocolate ending, you can’t get anything better than that
And love the pics of you and your dad and hubby, and love the red trench! You look gorg
I have never been to the Melting Pot, but people that have been to both say La Fondue is the way to go, but I wouldn’t pass up at least some choc fonde at MP
I am soooo excited to try All Spice — have you looked at the menu yet?
Exactly! Whenever we go to Melting Pot I just want skip all the courses and go straight to the chocolate! I think La Fondue is better because the meat/seafood/veggie course you get the grilling option (which I love!) and at Melting Pot you can only boil it, ick!
Omg yes right when you made the reservations I looked up the menu and it looks so delish! Um, the “Ode to My Wife” – beets and goat cheese ice cream??!! yes please! Everything just sounds so amazing and I am soooo excited too!!
I’ve fainted once (earlier this year actually) and still have no idea what the reason was and almost fainted once at a physical therapy appointment. It’s such a scary feeling! I love love love fondue! I don’t think it’s possible to go and not leave feeling full to the brim.
Oh no Lauren! And for an unknown reason? Let’s hope it doesn’t happen again!
I love fondue! My favorite part at the Melting Pot is the cheese and chocolate fondue. I’m glad that you had a great weekend with your dad!
I love the red coat! So cute.
Thanks!
And yes the cheese and choc are the best parts!
fondue is so fun! Even though I don’t eat cheese anymore, I love the idea of dipping. and sometimes it’s just fun to eat until you’re painfully full
So true Kat — gluttony at its finest!
My MIL has a fondue feast on Christmas Eve each year — I’m not going to lie, I think the food itself is pretty nasty but it is so much fun!
The food is nasty? oh no! Even chocolate?
wow, the way you described what happened sound intense. I’ve had that feeling before in the middle of the night, I had tummy issues and had cold sweat and felt like fainting. I still don’t know what triggers it
glad you enjoyed your weekend with your dad. I haven’t had fondue for a long time, last time I had it was at Melting Pot and also at a wedding with chocolate fondue on their dessert table.
Love the outfit and color combo. Something I would wear now.
That would be scary to have it happen in the middle of the night. I hope it was only that once! Sheesh.
Chocolate fondue at weddings is such a good idea!
i love dipping things! ugh so gross about that sugar drink. why do they make fit mommies take it?! i don’t understand! glad you had a nice time with your dad and cute trench! this is mine: http://www.madewell.com/newarrivals/jackets/PRDOVR~49331/49331.jsp best thing i did this wknd was brunch at a place called ‘meat and potatoes’ with my girl who i haven’t seen in ages! sadly, she had an ectopic preg in late july and has been trying for ages to get pregnant. i hope she does!
Camel coats are so classy — excellent pick!
Brunch is good, but major boo for your friend
There are a few fondue places like that in Chicago that I’ve been wanting to try- they always look amazing when I see pictures! Veggies were probably a very wise idea…that meat would’ve been even more filling!
yeah my Dad and hubby were dying! I was able to do more damage to the chocolate than they were though so that’s a bonus
LOVE the coat! So cute!!
OMG..that place looks awesome!! I had NO idea that you could actually EAT antelope or kangaroo- props to your Dad & hubby for eating that, don’t know if I could do that- lol!
& I love your purse.
My Dad loves the exotic meats — he was willing to try anything!
OMG!!! How scary!!!! Did you get your results back yet for the test??? I got mine the next day (and i had to do the 3 hour eek, was painful but everything okay in the end). That test is rough and the sugar and the blood…I’m surprised more women don’t have bad episodes. It’s SO much sugar!!!
I fainted 4 times after giving birth. That was fun times. I know the feeling…not a good one. The last time before then was when I was a teenager. Scary!!
You did Laury? That’s what I”m worried about since I don’t handle pain well. Oh boy… =(
WOW! So glad you are OK and made it to your bed quickly… That is very scary!!
Love fondue places but never really go
Fainting is seriously my middle name. I have to lie down for ALL bloodwork now and even that might be pushing it. I’m such a needle baby…I hope I become more like you and get used to it when I start having kids. We’ll see haha.
I’ve never really dabbled into fondue, but it looks worth trying!
I actually came very close to fainting several times when I broke my arm… I was fine until I saw what a hot mess it was. When I had my cast changed and I was black and blue from my fingers to my elbow and so deformed I was ont he verge. Not cool!
Oh my god that sounds horrible Becca!
Fondue is ahh-mazing! I love cheese fondue, but we have a small fondue pot at home that we sometimes use for chocoalte
That restaurant sounds super cool! Our fondue choices here are pretty straightforward… they are nice enough, but they charge a fortune and don’t offer anything particularly special. If all you’re going to offer me is filet mignon and lobster/shrimp and some veggies… and all that you really do is chop the stuff up… well… I think I’ll just do it at home, thankyouverymuch. Kinda silly to pay $40/person and higher for the limited amount of work involved on their end. Having a wide variety of crazy stuff like antelope, buffalo, kangaroo, etc would make it worth going, though. Very cool.
I’m not a fainter… I had a couple of weird episodes in high school where I developed massive blind spots in my vision- I’d be looking right at something and it just wasn’t there- accompanied by serious lightheadedness, but I’ve never actually fainted. Jess is a fainter, though- she doesn’t do well at all with heat. I’m always “on alert” when we’re in high heat situations.
Best part about my weekend… probably Friday night, Adam was in town from Brazil and we had a guy’s night out. Don’t see him often these days, obviously, so that was really fun.
Why do I feel like I’ve seen you faint before? Hmmm….mental block.
Zach passes out because he’s tall and hates crowded situations.
I feel for Jess — the heat gets me too!
Next time you’re out, we’ll take you to La Fondue — you’ll love it
