Some weekends are just good

Hey hey, welcome back to Monday Winking smile

It’s a short week for me and possibly for you too if you’re going to the Healthy Living Summit in Philly this weekend.  I am so excited Open-mouthed smile  It will be wonderful to finally put a face (in person) to the people behind the blogs I adore.

Before I recap the weekend, thanks for weighing in on whether I should go with blonde vs brunette hair – there was a good mix of both, but brunette edged the blondes by a bit.  I think I’ll go back to brunette in another month!

Onto the weekend…

Friday:

After work, I snagged a large decaf iced vanilla latte from Peets (because now we know decaf and some caffeine is okay for preggers ladies!), then I was off to check out a new-to-me baby store to see if I’d want to drag the hubby back on Saturday.  More of that to come.

Long weeks and short weekend made staying in on Friday night an easy choice.  I whipped up some spaghetti and Trader Joe’s chicken-basil meatballs (<—if you haven’t had these, try them!  so good Smile with tongue out)  Besides I had to also prep the guest room for my bestie and her hubby since they were staying with us while in town for a wedding (win!)

Saturday:

It was all business, meaning errands, errands, and more errands.  We revisited Buy Buy Baby, which is the baby-sister store to Bed Bath & Beyond.

We headed to the stroller section and I asked this young guy (21 yr old) if he knew anything about this stuff and he looked at me, like “yeah duh” (with a smile).  Turns out this kid is a stroller genius!  He knew *everything* and answered every question about weight, rank, consumer reports, color options, accessories, mix’n’match with other brands, collapsability, etc.

I may or may not have asked if I could put him in my pocket and take him everytime I go baby shopping.  I heart him.  Seriously.  I may have a crush on him.

We picked out the Baby Jogger City Elite and we’re both in looove Red heart

My hubby was having fun with all the bells and whistles, all-terrain air tires, and suspension.  I myself liked the aesthetics Winking smile  We paired it with a sage green Chicco car seat.  Done and done.

Turns out every salesperson in Buy Buy Baby is extensively trained by department to know their stuff so every area we went to had another genius.  Can you tell I love this store?

So we also picked out this crib (ignore the pink):

And best of all?  Since we registered there, they offer up a personal consultant who will walk you around each department and let you know what (and how much) of each item is recommended.  So helpful for new parents.  AND we received no pressure to buy a darn thing while we were there (or even register at all).  Yipppeee!

I really didn’t want to make this a baby post, but I must tell you about another thing we did – we looked at my push present Open-mouthed smile

My hubby managed to convince me that $3K is a bit much for a push present, so we’re settling on a “less” amount, which is TBD.  But I’m 99% sure I want this center ring:

Buuuuut, I am having them do some modifications – I want it widened from 4.7mm to 6mm, upgraded to 18ct white gold, and I want a mix of chocolate and yellow diamonds (also enlarged from current look of cognac diamonds).  I think we’ll have a verdict in  a few weeks!

Saturday night was spent at a potluck bbq party at our friend’s Mojan and Ali – someone brought Key Lime Pie and I maybe, just maybe might have had more than one piece. I made these again (Butterscotch smores bars):

Sunday:

Ugh, okay I hate long posts, so let’s wrap it up!  Sunday was brunch with the bestie and other friends at Hobees (I had pancakes of course!).

Then I got the hubby to walk the Stanford Dish with me (hecka hills!) by promising him I’d let him do this:

He hit range balls at Stanford while I read a magazine in the sun.

Not too shabby of a weekend, eh?

Any highlights from your weekend?

Favorite kind of pie?  Mine will always be pumpkin, but I did love that key lime

Are you going to HLS?  If so, what are you wearing Friday?  I think I’m going to wear this new tunic-top from White House Black Market with my maternity leggings – it’s fun, dressy-ish, and should be comfy.

  1. I wish you would have been at HLS so I could have met you last year! Sigh… oh well- you’ll have fun!

My favorite pie is pecan pie- it’s like crack on a plate. One reason why i reserve eating it only around the holidays…

  2. I’m not a pie person. I like apple though…minus the apples. Or peanut butter!

I actually JUST posted a list of my top ten things to do in my hometown of Philly this weekend…maybe check it out! (I wont be there, though haha)

  3. Ughh I wishhh I was going to HLS! But I have to move into school this weekend, so it would have been much too stressful.
My mom’s favorite pie is Key Lime…mine would probably be blueberry :)

Apple Pie wins hands down for me… with the sweet crumbly topping (dutch apple pie?), too, not the regular pastry crust top. And warm it up… then put a scoop or two of good french vanilla ice cream on top… heaven.

My weekend was crazy. We had 7 (SEVEN!!!) rowdy kids ages 5-16, and 3 adults staying with us the whole weekend. I feel like I got run over by a freight train today.

  5. Love love love those rings… I would lost them though in probably like 2 weeks. How I still have my engagement ring & wedding band is mind blowing to me.

  6. I am OBSESSED with Buy Buy Baby. Everyone is so knowledgeable and they have the best selection of stuff!

I have no idea what I”m wearing this weekend. I have about 3 outfits that still fit HA

  7. Awww, I remember talking about HLS when we went to dinner. I’m glad you’re going, but sadly, I’m not :( Have fun for me.

Weekend highlights: Shakespeare Festival and Ikea.

Favorite pie: Tie between apple and pumpkin. Please don’t make me chose.

  8. Is it weird that I really want a jogging stroller and I wont be having a baby any time soon?
I guess I REALLY like to be prepared.

  9. Oh my goodness, that’s too exciting!! Even though I’m only 23, no plans to have a baby anytime soon, I work in an office where it’s apparently super trendy to get pregnant right now, resulting in FAR too many trips to baby stores than I ever thought I’d be taking at this point in my life!!

But I’ll give it to the employees, they know their stuff, and though I was clueless about it all, I always ended up walking out with a great set of goodies for future babies!

I can’t even WAIT for HLS this weekend, and I bet you’ll be a totally hot mama, White House Black Market has never steered me wrong…

(I have pie dreams of key lime pie. I want key lime pie flavored any/everything.)

  10. I love the green of the basket!

Your a travelling gal! So jealous – I think no matter what you’ll wear, you’ll be a chic mama (to-be that is) :)

  11. As you know, I LOVE your baby posts, so keep them coming!!! :D So as soon as I saw that store- Buy Buy Baby – I immediately had to see if we had one near us. Of course we don’t…YET! THere is hope :D I also sent it along to my cousin who is pregnant, I think she would LOVE it…and there might be one closer to her in CA.
I’m in L-O-V-E with your crib!!! The dark wood is so pretty! Does it eventually convert into a full size bed? My nephew has one that will eventually be his actual bed, when he is old enough. I forget the name for those types of cribs, but they are awesome!
Oh, your push present- GORGEOUS! I remember when you first put it up on your blog- I thought it was stunning! I’m sure the hubs will hook it up ;)
And I’m totally ‘borrowing’ your idea of requesting pumpkin pie at my birthday. That is my favorite pie too, but I never think to ask for it- I always stick with the traditional cake- time to switch things up! It’s pretty convenient too, since my birthday is the day after Christmas, pumpkin pies are everywhere!! :D

    • Buy Buy Baby is pretty good online so if the day comes and it’s not yet in FL, you still have options ;)

The crib is really quite pretty (but not in a girly way per se). It does convert into a toddler bed and also a full-sized headboard/footboard if we want that option. Score!

Wait so your Bday is the due date of Baby O :D

      • I sent my cousins who are both preg the link to Buy Buy Baby :) I was like try not to get TOO hooked ;)
I love the crib!! & ya, that’s what my nephews will do- convert into the headboard- I think it’s such a good idea!
& I’m SOOOO excited that your baby & I could perhaps have the same bday!! So you might be in the hospital on Christmas like my Mom was…what a way to spend the holiday- haha ;) But it is the BEST present EVER..and they brought me out in a stocking.

  12. Have fun at HLS- I will not be there, alas. S’mores bars are so key- I’m having a big ol’ craving right now. :)

  13. I love that you picked the Baby Jogger … I used to be a planner for Baby gear at Toys R Us and remember hearing allll about the popular ones! That’s a good one! and I love the dark crib color…Very nice!

  14. Great post! I am taking tips on baby strollers…I have until Aug. 29th when we find out the sex of our baby. Honestly, I have no idea if we are having a boy or a girl…this is my first pregnancy;-)

Love the Butterscotch Smores Bars recipe! I think I will try it!

Oh, one last thing, I wanted to share with you a dessert recipe my girlfriend sent me in the mail: “YUMMER 2nd Trimester Cake”

1 white cake mix, 1 can crushed pineapple, mis these two ingredients together nothing else, pour batter into cake pan (your choice-follow baking instructions on cake box). Topping: fat-free cool whip, small can of crushed pineapple and a small box of vanilla instant pudding. Mix…spread over cooled cake – ENJOY! :-)

  15. I wish I was going to HLS!! It sounds so fun! And I bet you’re going to love that baby jogger!! :)

  16. There’s a Buy Buy Baby in Jersey..I wish there was one near me! Hears you can use the bed bath coupons there too!!!

Does your jogging stroller have a way to snap in the infant carseat? I loooove that about mine. Then when Ells gets older she can go right in it!!!

I CAN’T WAIT TO MEET YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

We should exchange inof to meet up before/at the cocktail party!

  17. But I like the pink! Your lil’ guy can start a new trend. :) Pink is the new black as they say. :)

  18. Congrats on your upcoming arrival! Sweet Tooth Courtney recommended we get in touch with you – can you send us your email addy? Thx!
