How was your Cinco de Mayo friends? Nursin’ a tequila hangover? Lucky for me, my vice is vino and not tequila 
This weekend we have another celebration — a combination Birthday / 137th Kentucky Derby party.
Because why not combine the two? There’s a dress code for this party, however. Ladies must wear a sundress and hat. Theme party? Don’t mind if I do. And since my dog is a “lady” and we plan on brining her, I will surely make sure she is wearing a hat (so what if it’s from her Halloween costume).
I offered to bake something for the shindig and would you believe I was handily turned down! The host says he wants all his menu to be consistent and doesn’t want me tainting it with my renegade baking (yes, I jest, but this is close to what he said..haha, right K?). So we shall come equipped with vino since what derby doesn’t have vino?
I know nothing about the horses racing, but figured it’d be fun to find one to root for. And since there wasn’t a horse named after a shoe, I went with a horse named after one of my favorite types of pets: Derby Kitten.
I have no idea of her stats and I don’t care. Her name is cute! Here’s a list of the other racers:

what a great idea!! ever since the royal wedding and seeing hats in every store, i am dying to have a reason to buy a hat. last year i planned a bachelorette party for my friend where everyone had to wear wigs. next bridal shower i’m a part of will be hats required!! but i love the idea of not sitting around waiting for someone to get engaged… and plan a random party of my own! make sure to post some hat/dress pictures next week!

Didn’t know that was this weekend until I read this post, good to know. I really like themed parties, it’s so much fun.
I’ve been wanting to buy hats ever since the royal wedding and will make an excuse to find a place here in L.A. where I can have a tea party so I can wear my hat.

And that muddy 5k I posted at healthy apron – it waw a blast! Those kinds of obstance course races are showing up all over the place now. I bet there’s one in your area. You could check Warrior Dash (I believe the starter of this frenzie) to see if there’s one around you.
