Shoes-Day!

It may not be Spring yet, but my feet still wish they were in Kauai, so here’s  a bevy of photos from last week highlighting a wedge gladiator sandal.

Sandals at Kauai Coffee Plantation

Kim, me, and Andrea on the coffee "tour"

Turquoise sundress from Alloy.com.  Sandals by Kenneth Cole via Marshalls last summer for about $25.

The above pics were taken on February 28, which truly turned into a day filled with a hodgepodge of activities due to somewhat cooler weather that threatened our ‘secret beach’ day.  We started at the Kauai Coffee Plantation on the south side of the island.  Perched on the beach were lush greens, and rows of coffee bean bushes (?).  We mainly went to taste all the varieties of free coffee (probably over 30!).

Per Ilya’s (and the bestie’s) insistence we had to go to Poipu for Puka-Dogs:

Puka-dog FAIL

I must admit Puka-dog really has a good thing going!  AND they cater to vegetarians.  Boooyah!  I got the veggie dog with spicy garlic sauce, pineapple salsa, and Hawaiian mustard and I can honestly say it was nothing like I’ve ever had!  And in a good way :D  They actually cut a hole in the bun and insert the hotdog and the sauce — a true 360 degree eating experience.    Andrea and Ilya got the Polish sausage with jalapeno garlic sauce, mango salsa, and Hawaiian mustard and they were in love (with the hotdogs…and each other..haha).

So despite the oozey mess I made and subsequent stained dress, I’d highly recommend trying this Kauai original out ;)

And because it’s Shoes-Day, here’s another shot of the shoes:

Do you prefer a little wedge on a gladiator sandal?  Any that you’re coveting?  Send me a link!

Have you tried Puka-dog?  Or have you been somewhere that has a tasty novel food idea like this?

PS.  Did you watch The Bachelor last night?  Dare I say I felt bad for Michelle!

  1. I like a little wedge on any sandal; its more comfortable for my high-arched feet. Love gladiators too though; so excited for sandal season. I start on the first day of spring regardless of the weather!

  2. Puka Dog! Mmmm…makin me hungry. :)

  3. Yum, those hot dogs sound so good! And I always appreciate packaging that doesn’t make the dog fall out of the bun! Maybe it’s just because baseball season is almost upon us (go Cubs!) but I can’t WAIT to get my hands on a hot dog. :) Cute dress, too!

  4. Super cute shoes! Love ‘em!

I just caught up on The Bachelor (this morning on Hulu). I know what you mean! I never expected this, but I feel badly for her. I mean, you gotta feel for someone who gets attacked by so many people on national TV even if she did bring some of it on herself. Plus, her daughter might have even been watching – no one’s kid should see that happen.

  5. Those shoes are so cute!!! I’ve nver had a puka dog but Springfield has this thing called a horse shoe. It’s a novelty food there–and so bad for you that I swear I shortened my life by 10 years after eating one. It was good though! lol

  6. LOVE those shoes!! I usually like a little wedge on my sandals – they feel so much more comfortable that way :)

  7. I love wedge sandals. I normally only wear flat ones though since 90% of the time I’m wearing them I’m lifeguarding and northern NY doesn’t get that weather until I’m leaving. I would wear them to class though. :)

  8. I want your shoes!!!

I always prefer a little wedge or height. I hate flats…they kill my feet and don’t think they are flattering on me.

  9. You felt bad for Michelle? I must admit I might have had the slightest bit of sympathy for her, but just the slightest bit! I think she dished the dirt and couldn’t handle all the backlash she got from the other girls! I can’t wait until next weeks episode to see who Brad picks!

  10. Those puka-dogs sound kind of incredible.

Also, I really wish I was somewhere warm right now.

  11. Haven’t watched the bachelor yet..but it’s on my DVR…& it’s calling my name ;) Definitely have to watch it before Monday!!
And, I LOVE those shoes on- sooo cute! I think they are way cuter on then in the picture, not that they aren’t cute in the picture, I just love them on! Does that make sense?!

  12. spicy garlic sauce? I’M SO IN!

and I have to say, I started to feel bad for Michelle, but then wised up and didn’t feel a bit bad for her. I think she planned a little “poor me” sobfest to win back every single person who hated her (98% of the American population?). laaame!

Do Flats count?…Flats gotta count right?…Sure they do. Yeah…right? ;)

PUKA-DOG!!! What a wicked name! Love it :) My favorite hot dog experiences were from college – stumbling out of the bars 3 a.m in the morning and hurdling toward the street vendors for a ‘dog on a white bun with ketchup, mustard and relish…God nothing ever tasted better…

(and yes I am aware that is disgusting and possibly was more toxic than the liquor :)

  14. Never had a pukadog, but you make it sound uber appealing. And yes, wedge on a gladiator is always a win!

  15. never heard of a puka dog but i bet i’d love it! looks good =)

  16. Flower Petal Blooming

For sandals I go flat or heeled. Not a fan of the wedge. It is rare it is done extremely well. I got myself a pair in Singapore (very cheap too)but had to throw them out after last season, simply too worn.
Best thing about wedges is how comfortable they are!!! Still I’d go for flats over a wedge that was not ‘spot on’.
