Say it *is* so — Maple lattes making a comeback?!?

If I wasn’t at work when I read this, I would probably have done a cartwheel in excitement.  I just read this article on YumSugar: Maple Lattes Get a Comeback !  This is what was written:

Despite well-timed seasonal drink promotions at nationwide coffee chains, I couldn’t help but notice that Winter beverages are looking less-than-creative this year. Now that peppermint mochas and pumpkin spice lattes are household phrases, what’s the new flavor of the month?

New couple Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal might have the answer: maple lattes. In the past week, the two have been spotted at beaneries across the country, sampling versions of maple coffee drinks in Brooklyn, NY, and two Nashville, TN, coffeehouses.

Although a latte with maple flavoring made the rounds in the Northeast and Canada as recently as five years ago, it’s not been seen at mainstream coffee chains in recent times, despite scattered campaigns to bring it back. Given the trend of the tree sap in tipples, could Taylor and Jake single-handedly push Grade B maple syrup back into the coffee mainstream?

Just about 5 years ago Starbucks offered a Maple Macchiato that was To.Die.For.  I loved it and drank one every single day.  Dare I say I was obsessed.  I fantasized about it during workouts.  If I passed a Maple tree, I was like Pavlov’s dog and swiftly took my butt to the nearest Sbux to get my fix.  Oh and bonus?  A Grande with non-fat milk was less than 200 cals! :)

I was understanding in that it was a holiday drink (or introduced during the holidays).

But then the next season of red holiday cups arrived and I excitedly scanned the menu board for my mouth watering treat.  It wasn’t there.  I asked the cashier.  I asked the manager.  I asked the barrista.  I called Sbux headquarters (no lie).  I sent emails.  I dropped comment cards.

There was no sign of the Maple Macchiato returning.    Ever.

This was a sad day for me folks.  Wait, who am I kidding, I still go on and on about my love of the MM.  Even this year I held out hope.

Oh and if you’re wondering, yes I have continued to send emails and drink suggestions to Sbux.  Clearly they are ignoring me.

In the meantime, I have a nice little fix of some Maple Nut coffee snagged from Marshalls.   Best purchase ever!

Maple madness

That’s the coffee on the left and check out the other two AWESOME items: Cranberry Maple Almond Granola and Maple Pumpkin Butter.  I got the latter from my MIL, which means she knows me very, very well =)  I have wonderful and devious things in mind for this little jar :)

Did you try Sbux’s Maple Macchiato?

Are you a maple fan?

Happy Friday! :)
